Hancock Elementy receives the first delivery from the NORMAL Inc. Power Pack Program for 27 students.
The 2012 brings on more than just a new year for Hancock Elementary School, they have been selected to receive up to fifty of the NORMAL Inc. Power Packs for the remainder of the school season. Tracy Schindel, Executive Director of NORMAL Inc, with Mr. Lynn Jackson, of Food Resources the area was identified as a vulnerable area that fit with in the guidelines for the Back Pack Program and allocated fifty back packs to be provided by NORMAL Inc.
In 2011 NORMAL Inc. and Life House West Church delivered forty backpacks a week and over 24000 items to two schools in Hagerstown. A lot has happened and the numbers are growing and with the addition of Hancock Elementary, NORMAL Inc. will reach nearly 100 back packs a week which will be 31500 items being delivered to the schools for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. David “Doc” Holliday, social worker for the school estimates about sixty students will need the services at Hancock Elementary.
The NORMAL Inc. S.H.A.P.E. Power Pack Center was opened in December to accommodate the growth of the Power Pack Program and the Care Bag Program that delivered groceries to twenty families. Tracy Schindel, Executive Director recognizes the need for the programs but is concerned about the growth out growing the finances to purchase the supplies. In this economy the need is greater than ever now, but the support from local business is limited with most closing or making cuts because of the economy.
